When using video analysis software, the most important part of your process is to have good quality video from effective sports performance analysis filming equipment.

By filming your sessions, you can open up a whole new world of possibilities. As most people are visual learners, using video lets your team watch back their performances and gives everyone a foundation to grow and improve with.

Coaches can watch back training sessions or matches, or upload games to video analysis software such as Nacsport to dive deeper into the data and unlock the potential of their team. With a camera solution like AP Capture, you can also live stream to platforms like YouTube and Facebook to share with your supporters too.

The benefits of filming sports sessions are varied and endless!

Further down this page we have some recommendations and advice about general filming solutions for sport (cameras, tripods, capture devices), but at AnalysisPro, we specialise in IP Cameras for sport, built around our groundbreaking AP Capture software.

Both our portable and fixed AP Capture solutions can be used for inside or outdoor events and are centred around a very high-quality, ultra high-definition 4K PTZ IP Camera, controlled via our super smooth joystick with Pan, Tilt and Zoom (PTZ) movement patterns. AP Capture creates a high-quality video file (MP4) that is ready to use straight after the event and we also have some very exciting ‘optional extras’ to add further layers to your AP Capture solution, like live streaming and multi-camera capabilities.

You may be looking at the best type of camcorders for sport, the best tripod for filming sports, the best phone or tablet for filming football or if a GoPro is right for your team. But if you want professional filming quality with additional benefits, you need to learn more about our portable AP Capture Sports Mast and how you can use it for filming sports, whether they are fast-paced or close-up technical sports.

With our fixed IP Camera installations for sport, we work with you to determine the best locations in your environment to capture your matches and training. Whether that's on a custom bracket attached to an existing structure inside or outside, or with a recommended outdoor mast for optimal height and positioning, our focus is ensuring you get the highest quality footage at all times.

A fixed IP Camera means no setup time to start filming, capturing and live streaming your events through AP Capture, even with multiple cameras across a site. You can access the cameras from multiple locations and easily link them into video analysis software for additional live capture and analysis workflows too.

When looking at sports performance analysis filming equipment, nearly all activities benefit from a high vantage point for your camera. After this, the next biggest impact on your filming is having a good tripod. We recommend this Sony tripod as a great option because it has a fluid head movement and an integrated remote control on the tripod arm. You can connect this to a Sony handycam and vastly improve your filming by being able to easily zoom in and out, whilst panning the camera with the tripod arm. Obviously, the additional height and stable platform for your camera given by the tripod is also a big factor.

To see our fully integrated IP Camera solution with a portable tripod, which will take the 4K PTZ IP Camera up to 6 metres for high-quality filming, check out this page on the AP Capture Sports Mast.

When it comes to getting started with a video camera, we think the Sony handycams are a great option. Most are designed for the Sony tripod we mentioned and provide you with HD footage. As a starting camera, we recommend the Sony CX450 Handycam. Higher spec models are available but when tight on budget, this camera should do a great job for you. The standard battery will comfortably film for 60 minutes, but to cover a full game you can also purchase this extended battery and not have to worry about running out or changing. You will also need to get a memory card to go with the camera. We would recommend 32GB as a good working storage and Class 10 speed for faster transfers.

Capture devices are great to have in your sports performance analysis filming equipment. Most cameras give an HDMI output and you can use this to live capture into Nacsport via a capture device.

To start, the Avermedia Live Gamer Mini will take an HDMI feed into Nacsport in the most affordable way. If you are receiving an SDI feed, use the Avermedia ExtremeCap SDI. The Avermedia ExtremeCap UVC is the HDMI alternative. It is like the Live Gamer Mini, but is smaller, faster and recommended for professional use.

You can see Nacsport’s further recommendations and ratings of these video capture devices on their support page here.

We've been helping analysts all over the world to manage their capture and sharing processes more easily with our AP Multifeed Box, converting SDI or HDMI video feeds into RTSP feeds to use in their video analysis software.

Professional sports teams are often provided with multiple video feeds for their games from broadcasters and their own cameras too. SDI and HDMI cables carry these video feeds around a stadium and video analysts need to find ways of recording and capturing these into their video analysis software. AP Multifeed has become the popular choice in a variety of sports for making this easy.
